This weeks Congressional Updates, Phone Numbers, and What to Say:
— Senate Appropriations Committee passed an amendment banning USDA inspections for equine slaughterhouses in the US. However...there are many more votes and slippery slopes where language can be added that overturns this as the budget process continues.
— The House Appropriations Committee approved an amendment authorizing the sale without restriction of wild horses and burros in short of long-term holding and the destruction of “excess” wild equines on the range by Rep. Chris Stewart (Republican, Utah),who used "alt facts" that claimed that wild horses were “starving” and also "reproducing like rabbits".
What you can do: Tell Senate Appropriations Committee members to vote against the Administration’s proposed budget language that allows sale without limitation for America’s wild horses and burros in captivity and their destruction on the range. This is NOT a plan based on science, fact or concern for our wild horses... it is about Public Land Grabs and Money. It is Planned Extermination of our Wild Horses and Burros, on our public lands and those taken from our public lands, to subsidize Oil, Gas, Mining, Cattle, Sheep and other for profit entities to subsidize on your tax $'s.
Call your Congressional members...they represent you and if not then you need to tell them you will vote them out of office. Best times to call are week ends and after hours may be easier if you’re not a constituent. These are our wild horses and your tax $'s contribute to these lands and their well being so all Congressional members are accountable to represent you on this issue.
Here’s what you can say: "We Americans will not stand for the mass murder of our wild horses and burros (WH&B's) in holding pens or on their federally designated lands. And, we will not allow wild equines in captivity to be transferred to any federal, state or local entity without following laws governing proper and humane oversight and tracking of their well-being, or to be sold at a reduced rate or unrestricted limit to ANY buyers. Please vote against unrestricted sale or murder of horses and burros in holding and against destroying/murder/hunting “excess” wild equines on the range. Do NOT let BLM scapegoat and reject safe and reversible fertility solutions that have always worked, when used. BLM has used less than 1% of its allocated budget for fertility control to manage our wild horses...they are complicit in this plan of managed extinction of our wild horses. Demand solutions, not destruction of our WH&B's!”
